October 19, 2013
The
Third Golden Guepard Film Forum kicked off on October 19. The first of
the six days of cinematic razzmatazz included two press conferences with
members of the juries for features, shorts and animated films and
workshops. The day concluded with a red-carpet opening ceremony for the
film forum, ushering in days of film demonstrations and workshops that
will culminate with an Awards Ceremony.
At Fund Forum’s Conference Room a press conference saw members of the
jury for feature films share their expectations and talk about the
in-competition films and tricks of creating quality films as well as
discussing issues of interest.
The press conference panel was made up of Chinese film director Zhang
Yuan, German actress Petri Franziska Petri, Uzbek veteran film director
Kamara Kamalova and Japanese film director Tomio Kuriyama. This was
immediately followed by another conference, where Emilia Haviarova,
Uzbek film director Bahodir Odilov and Uzbek film director Svetlana
Muradhojayeva took questions from a host of journalists.
The educational segment of the day included two workshops, at the
Youth Art Palace, by Iranian big-name film director and scriptwriter
Abbas Kiarostami and leading Chinese cinema guru Zhang Yuan, who is the
chairman of the jury for the film forum. Kiarostami told those gathered
about his quest for his signature style in cinematography and how he
secured the success that he enjoys today. The workshop included a film,
‘The Way of Kiarostami’, which was shot at the behest of the South
Korean Film festival.
Yuan talked about the current state of Chinese cinema, provided
practical advice and answered questions from those attending. Another
jury member, Japanese film director Tomio Kuriyama, also led a workshop
that included a screening of his film “Fishing Fool’s Diary” at the
State Institute of Arts and Culture. Kuriyama spoke about his film and
his career and shared his impressions of Tashkent, noting that the city
has changed immensely since he visited it 43 years ago.
