Golden Guepard Film Forum: Day Two

and documentary film demonstrations, workshops by Iran’s Abbas
Kiarostami and Germany’s Hans Schlegel as well as a meeting with French
documentary film maker Marion Stalens and upbeat discussions made up the
second day of the Golden Guepard Film Forum. The agenda also included
film screening as part of the Panorama of Uzbek Cinema and National
Festival of Mass Films.
The day kicked off with a
press conference with film forum
guests, among them Indian film director and ‘Ali Baba aur 40 Chor’ star
Umesh Mehra, Indian film star Gulshan Grover and Russian animator
Vladlen Barbe.
Iranian film director Abbas Kiarostami taught another workshop at Tashkent’s Youth Art Palace, where he spoke about his films. This was followed by a
workshop titled ‘Models and Functions of Short Films’ led by Hans Schlegel,
a German film critic, who is a member of the selection committee of the
Golden Guepard Film Forum. Schlegel talked about the ways of promoting
short films and other issues.
The in-competition program of animated films presented “About
Killing a Pig” (Italy, 2012) directed by Simone Massi; ‘Moirai’
(Germany, 2012) directed by Kerstin Unger and Jasper Diekamp; ‘The
Boastful Girl’ (Kazakhstan, 2012) directed by Ramil Usmanov, Julia Tkhai
and Kuat Konirkuldzhaev; ‘Father’ (Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, 2012)
directed by Ivan Bogdanov, Moritz Mayerhofer, Asparuh Petrov, Veljko
Popovic, Rositsa Raleva and Dmitry Yagodin, and ‘Memento Mori’ (Bolivia,
2012) directed by Daniela Wayllace.
The short film program
offered ‘Parvane’ (Switzerland, 2012) directed by Talkhon Hamzavi; ‘The
Alcoholic’ (Ukraine, 2013) directed by Julia Gontaruk; ‘November Lights’
(Austria, 2012) directed by Jürgen Karasek; and ‘Requiem for a Night’
(Iran, 2013) directed by Yusef Kargar.
At Alisher Navoi Palace of Cinema,
French documentary film maker Marion Stalens
presented her film ‘Juliette Binoche Before Your Eyes’, who was
demonstrated as part of the Program of French Films. Impressed by the
documentary film and the life of Binoche, the audience asked questions
to Stalens. Then followed a screening of the documentary
‘Three Colors: Blue’ (1992) directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski.
Also,
the Program of Documentary Films ‘Vectors of Reality’
started at Alisher Navoi Palace. The Program kicked off with a screening
of American film director Katie Dellamaggiore’s ‘Brooklyn Castle’
(2012), followed by ‘Little Afghanistan’ directed by Afghanistan’s Basir
Seerat and ‘My House Without Me’ directed by Poland’s Magdalena
Szymków.
The Program of South Korean Film also kicked off at
Alisher Navoi Palace of Cinema with ‘A Barefoot Dream’ (2010) directed
by Kim Tae-gyun. The day also included a Program of Czech Films
‘Visiting a Fairy Tale’ at City Makon and presented ‘The Most Beautiful
Riddle’ (2008) directed by Zdeněk Troška.
The Program of Feature Films demonstrated ‘My Father’s Bike’
directed by Poland’s Piotr Trzaskalski and ‘Meeting Leila’ by Iran’s
Adel Yaraghi. The latter included a press conference with Yaraghi and
the author of the film's script Abbas Kiarostami.
