When visiting bazaars, you will feel yourself as if 1000 years ago, when bazaars were almost the same look and feel.
Chorsu Bazaar - Tashkent
Bazaars are a place that every traveller must go! Shopping in Uzbek bazaars is a totally different experience. Very big by size, it may take a whole day to walk around and do some shopping. The best part of visiting bazaars are tasting and trying the products, bargaining with a seller, buying some souvenirs and leaving with a smile. Sellers are very polite and will be happy to please you with their products and good service.
In hotel's souvenir shops you can buy most of souvenirs. But greater variety is available in Bazaars and special craftsmen centers where choice is almost unlimited.
Fresh fruits and vegetables, sun-dried fruits and vegetables, spices, traditional dress for men, women, and kids, carpets, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, knifes, wooden souvenirs and many other things can be found in all bazaars of Uzbekistan. It is usually crowded at all times. Dining in bazaars is a completely different experience. It is an exotic experience that you may not find anywhere else.
For modern and imported goods, visit Main Department Stores (TSUM) and Central Department Stores (GUM) in Tashkent. Opposite TSUM, look for paintings and handicrafts at the International Centre of the Union of Artists of Uzbekistan. Two doors down is a gift shop and bookshop where you can buy map of Tashkent and other cities.
